Hi, my name is Diamond Mays. I’m the owner of Brown Sugah Cafe and co-owner of Woman of Leisure Catering Services. I graduated from Louisiana Culinary Institute with a double major, Baking and Pastry and Hospitality and Restaurant Management.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
Well, I came from a loving family, but now I’ve started my own with my husband, Sam, and our new bundle of joy, Jeremiah. Every day is a new adventure with my loves. My mom, Virginia is the head over Woman of Leisure. We work together brainstorming new ideas for the business.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
Although I put my business on pause, I love to bake. I usually say baking is like Chemistry that you can eat. I love putting a smile on my family and friends’ faces when I let them eat the pastry dishes.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I haven’t been to many locally-owned restaurants

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’ve lived here all of my life, 23 years!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would love to go to Jerusalem, Israel. It’s more of a spiritual thing, I want to know more about God.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Baker’s Dozen, I would love to be on that show.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Never give up on your dreams. No matter how hard it is God will always be there every step of the way.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Attend a baking competition.

Q: What is your go-to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
I usually listen to Jazz music if I’m in the mood for it. I try to be at peace while I bake.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Gordon Ramsey. I would like to know more about food. I would take us to BRQ

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite thing to do is bake and give out to friends and family.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Owning a building for Woman of Leisure.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I like to draw.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been? Why did it make such an impression on you?
Cozumel, Mexico. It brings me peace when I think about that day spent with my mom.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
August. Christmas. The best day ever was giving birth to my son 5 days before my birthday!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
At first, it was my late grandmother because it was her dream to own a restaurant. Later on, in life, it changed to my husband and son.
